The response to treatment varies from from one person to the next. It is not uncommon for patients with muscular-skeletal poblems such as back pain, stiff necks and shoulder restrictions to detect some kind of improvement almost immediately after treatment. In some instances the change can be quite dramatic. For other conditions which may be more chronic or long term, the change may be too subtle to detect so soon. The Bowen Technique is very effective, but as with all therapies, complementary or conventional, there are times when a patient may not appear to improve. If this appears to be the case after 3 or 4 Bowen treatments, possible reasons will be discussed and treatment will be suspended or terminated if is decided that further treatment would not be benficial.
Treatments are given at weekly intervals. Patients are advised to consider 3 or 4 treatments initially, provided that no re-injury takes place in this time. The frequency of follow-up treatments if they are needed, will depend on the patient's response and the nature of the problem and the lifestyle and occupation of the patient.
People whose bodies are subjected to regular physical demands through sport, work or recreation, may benefit from regular maintenance every 4-8 weeks. For general health maintenance, some people have regular visits 2-4 times a year.
